On the bottom of the page of each element you find some relevant ‘methods’ (yellow sticky notes). These are just examples, there is an infinite number of methods to choose from.

Methods are placed on a design element, to show where and how they are used in your design flow. A mood board for example can be used as an inspiration board to diverge or as a criterium to converge, on itself its use is not clear. As the mood board example shows us, methods are often used multiple times in a strategy.

Involve stakeholders

Involve stakeholders

This element you place where you want to involve stakeholders in your process, for example your client. This element is often used in combination with another element, to specify the design activity you want your stakeholder to be involved. For example, you place the element adjacent to ‘converge’ to make clear you want to involve your stakeholder in a decision process.

What if I don’t involve stakeholders?

Not involving stakeholders often means missing out on important information. Secondly it can create unfortunate surprise if only late you find out you aren’t designing what they were looking for.

Where in the design flow?

Often in decision making processes (converge) or when a solution has reached a new level.

Which method to use?

It is usually a good idea to think about the way you involve your stakeholder. He or she (or group) should have a clear role. This role can be defined using the yellow sticky notes. Also write down who you want to involve (for example, the marketing manager of the client company).
