Oversee & Decide - Design Flow Kit

Legend

Show basic legend

Learn about the use of the 12 design elements and the methods.
Click above on the basic legend from the physical kit or surf through the more extensive legend.

On the bottom of the page of each element you find some relevant ‘methods’ (yellow sticky notes). These are just examples, there is an infinite number of methods to choose from.

Methods are placed on a design element, to show where and how they are used in your design flow. A mood board for example can be used as an inspiration board to diverge or as a criterium to converge, on itself its use is not clear. As the mood board example shows us, methods are often used multiple times in a strategy.

Oversee & Decide

Oversee & Decide

With this element you plan the moments in your design flow, where you have a moment of overview, reflection and planning. You look at how things are going, what is to be done and decide about the next steps. More specifically, you reconsider your design flow (put it on the table). It is typically also a moment where you consider things form a project management perspective.
Plan on who you will engage in this activity and how will this activity look like (workshop, meeting, etc.).

Possible points of consideration:
Do we continue with the solution we designed or do we need an extra effort to get a better solution?
Do we have enough time and resources to continue the way as planned?
How many solutions do we elaborate?

What if I don’t Oversee & Decide?
You will probably loose oversight of the project. Different team members will over time get a different picture of the project, this happens naturally. Oversee & Decide recalibrates the team and makes sure there is a collective ownership and view on how to work towards the final product. It strengthens the coherence in the team, if hosted properly.

Where in the design flow?
Up to you, but it can be a good moment to do this after finishing a result/solution. Especially if you presented the solution to external stakeholders (such as the client), this creates a moment to overview the situation.

Which method to use?
The design flow kit itself is the obvious method. But it can also make sense to combine with other resource planning systems to gain a better overview and to include the project management perspective.
